Repairing Pottery with a Contemporary Twist
In this one-day Modern Kintsugi workshop, you will learn a hands-on repair method that combines traditional urushi with a contemporary approach.
We use authentic urushi for natural fillings, followed by a layer of red urushi and a refined finish with fine brass powder. Unlike many modern alternatives that rely solely on synthetic adhesives, this method allows you to experience the depth and character of true lacquer work.
You will leave with a beautifully restored, food-safe piece of pottery — and the skills to continue exploring Kintsugi on your own.

What you bring:
- A mask if you have a risk of dust or metal allergy
- Reading glasses if you need
- An apron or wear casual clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty
Materials & Options:
All necessary materials are included in the workshop fee.
Please choose one of the following options:
Option 1: Use a Provided Bowl
We will provide a bowl for you to repair, as well as a box for safe transportation and drying after the workshop.
Option 2: Bring Your Own Bowl
If you would like to bring your own piece, please read the pottery guidelines in advance. Additionally, please bring a Tupperware container (see link) to transport your repaired pottery, as the gold finish may not be completely dry after the workshop.
Guidelines for the pottery for Kintsugi:
Recommended:
- Small bowls or plates
- Pottery in dark green or blue colors, as they complement the gold lines used in kintsugi
- Pottery with a smooth surface
Not recommended:
- Cups with narrow openings
- Unglazed pottery (on both sides; front and back)
- Plant pots
- Porcelain
- Large plates, vases, or pots exceeding 20 cm in diameter, especially if broken into more than 3 pieces
Please bring only one piece. Due to the many steps and techniques involved, repairing one piece will be sufficient. The size of the pottery should not exceed 20 cm and should fit in your Tupperware. If you are a beginner, it is recommended to use a bowl or a cup instead of a plate. Additionally, if you want to work on an unbroken piece, please do not break it yourself. We will break it together during the workshop.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made within 7 days of the workshop are non-refundable, as preparations and travel expenses will have already been incurred.If you are unable to attend due to illness or an emergency, please contact us. We will review such cases individually and do our best to find a fair solution.
Kintsugi Kits
